The Community Redevelopment Authority

CRA was established by the City of Benkelman on January 17th, 2011, and is charged with the conservation and rehabilitation of substandard or blighted areas within the city.  The Authority is comprised of 4 members to serve the Board and may exercise all of the power and authority granted by State Statutes. The Authority utilizes several development tools to assist developers with commercial, industrial, or residential projects.  Projects applying for CRA assistance must qualify by meeting specific criteria.  Several incentives are available through the Community Redevelopment Authority to assist small businesses and developers within the City of Benkelman.

Planned growth will make Benkelman more effective in serving residents, more efficient in using resources, and able to meet the standard of living and quality of life every individual desires.

We are making progress!

  • A community health center, the Dundy Beach Club, now the thriving Weight Buffet, has been a wonderful asset to citizens of all ages.
  • Vacant lots have been cleaned up and are ready for new development.
  • 2017-2018 Project of the year “Workforce Housing” presented by WCNDD. The Benkelman CRA partnered with WCNDD to bring in a 1512 sq ft- 3 bedroom, 2 bath home with an attached 2 car garage on an unfinished basement. The project was completed on one of the CRA’s infill lots and is the first house on the road to completely redevelop an entire blighted block.

REAP is currently offering business coaching to business owners in Benkelman at the Weight Buffet. Through REAP, you can create a business plan, research potential markets and marketing ideas, discuss management issues with experienced business specialists, and apply for a small business loan.
