Republican River & Area Lakes
Camping, kayaking, boating, skiing, swimming, picnicking, hiking, fishing, and hunting are just some of the great opportunities that can be enjoyed while visiting Dundy County.
The Republican River meanders near Benkelman and provides natural beauty, life for crops and wildlife, and recreation.
Kayakers and anglers, in particular, enjoy this area in southwest Nebraska. Three lakes are within a short distance of Benkelman: Rock Creek Lake, Enders Reservoir, and Swanson Reservoir.
Hunting
Southwest Nebraska is well known for its excellent pheasant and deer hunting. The Republican River offers diverse habitats for waterfowl hunting as well. With a broad diversity of species and seasons, all hunters in southwest Nebraska can have a busy and bountiful year.
Home-Owned Carnival & Fair
Honoring a tradition established in 1903, the citizens of Dundy County gather once a year in late July for an exhibition of outstanding livestock, garden vegetables and fruits, and home-made creations and for a top-notch program of rodeo, stock car racing, hometown carnival, musical performance, free barbecue, games, Supercross racing action, and much more!
Zorn Theatre
A volunteer-based, non-profit theater established to provide an affordable venue for the arts that contributes to the revitalization of downtown Benkelman. Visit their Facebook page for more information and current showings.
Benkelman Golf Course
A scenic 9-hole course located three miles east of Benkelman along the Republican River. The course has minimal fees, no tee time required and carts available.
Benkelman Ball Association
A program of service to youth in our community. It is geared to provide a positive outlet for healthy activity and training under quality leadership from volunteers.
